North River Retreat is an AMAZING place. I would go spend the day there even if i didn't get to shoot or hunt. I've short the matrix maybe 10 times over the past 8 years and it's my favorite place to shoot. John (owner/proprietor) is a class act and a gifted teacher. I have taken many new shooters to North river and they always feel safe and well led there. It's really the best place I know of to help folks learn about shooting . The quail hunts i've participated in are wonderful and i can't wait to go again this fall. Friends who have hunted for deer there loved their experience. Really, if you're on the fence, just go ahead and give them a try for any of their services. Truly North river is a gem...wish i could go very week...

Great place to visit and forget about the rest of the world. Beautiful scenery and shooting the Matrix clays range is fun and challenging. The deer and turkey hunting are good also.
I've enjoyed many hunting, fishing, and hiking experiences at North River Retreat and am anxious to go back again. My son got his first deer there and I've learned a lot from the clinics at the sporting clays range.
John Gavitt provides an enjoyable outdoor experience at the North River Retreat. We have enjoyed the quiet and beautiful setting as we were able to reel in some nice rainbow trout. You will not find a kinder host than John Gavitt.
